394 Wins

Gregory Alan Maddux should be a first ballot Hall of Famer in three years.  He spent part of 2007 and 2008 with the Padres.  He is best known as a Chicago Cub and Atlanta Brave.  He has 355 wins in his career, 20 of them with the Padres.  I think I got this from ebay, but I wouldn't swear to it.  I might have gotten it through the mail. Greg has paid tribute to one of the all time great pitchers in naming his children, Amanda "Paige" Maddux and "Satchel" Chase Maddux.  Michael Ausley Maddux has 39 wins in his career which brings the Maddux family win total to 394 career wins.  In his first major league game he faced his brother and as did many other pitchers, he lost.  He pitched in 114 games for the Padres, mostly as a relief pitcher.  I got this card signed through the mail.  Mike is currently the pitching coach for the Texas Rangers.  Interesting Mike's entry on wikipedia says he is distantly related to Frank Zappa, but there is no mention of that on Greg's entry.

Shane Mack

Shane Lee Mack played for 4 seasons at AAA Las Vegas from 1986 to 1989.  I would buy a front row seat at Civic Stadium on the third base side, next to the visiting dugout.  In those days at Civic it was really easy to talk to the players and interact with the them.  I got Shane to sign this and many cards during the games.  Shane played in the Padres organization through 1989 when he was chosen by the Twins in the Rule 5 draft.  Shane was part of the Twins' World Series Champions in 1991.  He played 3 years in Japan and then returned to the States and finished his career with the Red Sox, A's and Royals.  Shane was also part of the silver medal team for the USA at the 1984 Olympics.

John and Drew

John Steven Mabry played 48 games for the Padres in 2000.  He played 14 seasons in the major leagues, playing with the Cardinals three different times.  He hit for the cycle against the Rockies in 1996 while playing for the Cubs.  I got this signed through the mail in 2001 while John was with the Marlins.  I am looking forward to typing the stories of Matt Stairs and Ron Villone and seeing how many different teams I can mention in their bios.  Andres Apolomo/Apolonio "Drew" Macias was drafted by the Padres and got a taste of the majors each of the last three seasons.  He played 1 MLB game in 2007, and 17 in 2008 and 51 games in 2009.  He also played here in Portland last year in 86 games.  After the season he was granted free agency and signed with the Diamondbacks.  He is playing with AAA Reno of the PCL this year.  I got this signed through the mail during Spring Training, he signed this and the Padres team card in Topps Series One.

Catching up Part V

Michael DeMark was playing in the Frontier League in 2006 and then signed with the Padres.  He has worked his way up to Portland.  I got him to sign this Padrograph card at a Beavers game a couple of weeks ago.  Allan Christopher Dykstra was drafted by the Padres in 2008 and has already played at high A ball.  He is a first baseman and there are several of them in the organization including that All-Star first baseman Adrian Gonzalez.  I got this back in the mail yesterday, it only took 12 days to get to SoCal and back.

Catching up Part IV

SSwain Sawyer Carroll was drafted by the Padres in 2008 and has worked his way up to AA San Antonio.  Last year he hit .317 at three different teams in the organization.  I recently bought this on ebay, after trying multiple times through the mail.  Aaron R. Cunningham was drafted by the White Sox and traded to the D-backs and then to the A's and finally to the Padres.  He had a Padres card in this years Topps Series 2, but the pen I sent him worked better on the Padrograph card I sent him.  It took about 2 weeks for this to come back in the mail.

Catching up Part III

Gregory Francis Burke was signed by the Padres as an amateur free agent in 2006.  He pitched in 48 games for the Padres in 2009.  He is pitching here in Portland this year.  I got this card signed through the mail c/o the Portland Beavers earlier this year.  Yefri Carvajal signed every card I sent him, although I only asked him to sign one and keep the rest, this is the only one I had prepped for him to sign.  I had put 20 cards in a team set bag with a bi-lingual note on it thanking him and telling him the cards were for him to keep as a thank you.  So I have lots of Yefri Bowman cards signed.

Catching Up Part II

AAnthony E. Bass was drafted by the Padres in 2008 and has pitched everywhere in the Padres organization except for AA San Antonio and the Majors.  He is currently pitching here in Portland.  I got this card signed through the mail.  Michael Joseph Baxter was drafted by the Padres in 2005 and has played his way from Ft. Wayne to Portland.  In those six seasons he has played all three outfield positions and 1B and 3B.  His highest average was .317 and he is a career .272 hitter.  I got this signed in person at PGE Park on July 7, 2010.

Catching Up

Before we get back to business as usual and start the 2nd half of the alphabet there are a few Padrographs that I have received that I need to share with you.  First off is Jon Michael Adams, who went on the DL today with a strained oblique.  Adams has pitched in the majors with the Brewers and Padres.  With the Padres he is part of the bullpen which has gotten the Padres where they are today, 1st place.  He and Luke Gregerson are the set up men for Heath Bell this year.  Cha Seung Baek pitched in 22 games for the Padres in 2008, going 6-9.  He is currently pitching for the Yuma Scorpions of the Golden Baseball League.  He was signed as an amateur free agent straight out of high school in Busan, Korea by the Mariners.  I got both of these cards signed through the mail.

My latest Padrographs

Last Wednesday I took the day off and went to PGE Park to watch the Beavers play the 51's.  It was a good game, Beavers fell behind early and then came back to win the game 6-3.  Lance Zawadzki should have been the game MVP.  Before the game I was able to go stand next to the dugout and try and get some auto's, I was trying for six guys, Radhames Liz, Adam Russell, Lance Zawadzki, Cedric Hunter, Mike DeMark, and Mike Baxter.  Only Hunter has a Padres card that I could find, so I made some Padrographs cards.  I got 4 of 6, Liz and Russell didn't come out until after the game had started.
Today is a day that I take off every year, the second Tuesday of July.  I don't want to rush home to watch the All Star game so I just take the day off.  Today I helped my wife clean and shine our hardwood floors and then sorted two 3,200 boxes of Padres into the appropriate alphabetical categories, I still have two more 3,200 count boxes to rough sort alphabetically then I will sort them by player.  When the mail came today it contained a self addressed stamped envelope that I had sent out a couple of weeks ago.  I had mailed Aaron Cunningham a Topps 2 card and one I had made.  With the pen I sent him the Padrograph card looked better.
The Cunningham brings me up to 754 different players that I have Padres cards of.  I have a few things up for sale on ebay right now, some stuff from 2010 Allen and Ginter, some vintage football and vintage non sports.

Allen & Ginter Anniversary Edition

I did not participate in this years Allen & Ginter's Gint A Cuffs, but my wife bought me a box for our 25th Anniversary.  Actually she first bought me a nook from Barnes and Nobles, which I was psyched about at first until I found out how few books are out as ebooks and how expensive the other ones were.  So we took it back and then I got the box.  I do not know why I continue to want boxes cause there are not usually many Padres hits and I can get a team set cheap on the bay, it is an excitement.

I opened the boxtopper and thought I had got Beardy or Ryan's box, also I got two baseball highlight sketch but they are both of Yankees, the Idiot and the Captain.
I did alright on the odds, everything came out just right.  I also got a Worlds Wordsmith of Homer, but I collect author cards so I am going to try and complete that set.
These are the player minis, I also got John Garland of the Padres, but I will keep that one also. Everything else above is up for trade.

I got 3 relics and an auto out of the box also.  Danks and Butler are jersey pieces, Adam is a piece of bat and Mr. Maybin signed the card.  I really like the framed relics and mini's this year.  I will probably put these on ebay.

Custom Bip Entry

Sean over at Condition:Poor created Bipfinity a collection of Bip cards in one card.  It is another 1/1 and provided an explanation on the back. I really like the card number of this career retrospective.

Custom Bip Entry.

This entry comes from John Soukop, he came across the blog and decided to enter. He has made cards like this of other players and sent them to them and gotten them signed.  I like the way he used the 10 since that was Bip's number with the Padres.  John is also an artist for Topps, he has done artwork for
Galaxy 4
Galaxy 5
Clone Wars Widevision
Empire Strikes Back 3d

Custom Bip Entry.

Travis over at Punk Rock Paint covered Bip's career in one of those lovely book cards.  This is the most complete career retrospective that I have ever seen.  There are pictures with each team, patches from each, a bat barrel, a sweet spot auto and bat pieces and it is a 1/1.  I wonder if Travis actually has a hard copy of this card.

Custom Bip Entry.

I received five entries into the custom Bip contest.  4 of the entrants I was familiar with and I hope to familiarize myself with the fifth entrant.    I am going to highlight one of the cards each day from now to Monday and will announce the winners on Tuesday.

The first entry is from Jim at GarveyCeyRussellLopes.  He created the 1999 Upper Deck Tribute card that should have been, he split 1998 between Detroit and Oakland.  Bip is from Oakland, played baseball at Oakland's Skyline High and is now the head baseball coach there.  Thanks Jim

2010 Allen & Ginter

While every one else is looking for some very young pitcher, I will be looking for the Worlds' Wordsmith singles.  If you get one and are interested in trading it for something let me know at padrographs at live.com.  I already James Fenimore Cooper coming.  If you have cards of authors from any other sets I would be interested in trading for them also.  Thank you.
